My Story

I began to fall in love with architecture while I was in high school. The art of design concepts pulled me in and planted seeds for my career ahead.

I grew up in a military family, so we moved frequently.  While that can be challenging for a young girl, it helped me become more observant of my surroundings and comfortable relating to new people. Due to this, listening and truly connecting with my clients is foundational to my architectural philosophy today.

My formal architectural studies began in Argentina but finished in Bolivia due to the economic challenges of those days. Being in Argentina was my first experience living in a new country. While difficult, I learned perseverance and obtained my license as an architect -in Bolivia, marking the culmination of a long journey and the start of a new one.

After finishing my studies, I designed a comprehensive Master Plan for one of La Paz’s amazingly scenic roads. I did not know it, but this would become the first of many master plans in my career.

Since those university days, my ideas have been enriched by the journey my life took: creating a family and moving across 3 continents.

From Bolivia, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona in the USA with my husband and children.  My architectural experience now broadened into residential, commercial, and landscape design.  I also worked in teams for major master plans, including the Light Rail in Phoenix.

We later moved to Thailand where I discovered a deep appreciation for the art of Asian design. I incorporated their great attention to detail and thoughtful concepts into the several projects I worked on through my own practice.  A particularly meaningful project was a memorial garden for the lives lost in the 2004 Tsunami, some of which were friends with our children.

In 2009, my journey continued to Seattle, WA where I finished my Masters in Green Building. This broadened my perspective to be environmentally conscious and better integrate each project with its context.

Each step of this journey has strengthened my desire to use my experiences and knowledge to enhance people’s lives. I strive to make a positive impact with each client and find the best outcome for each situation.

I am excited to continue my story with you.

Rousena Hoag has exhibited excellent design talent and the ability to communicate and execute our clients desires. As Project Manager, Rousena was able to coordinate such complicated projects as the Luke Air Force Base and the Akchin Master Plans. She succeeds in completing her projects on time and in budget. Rousena’s linguistic skills have been very useful in client and community meetings.

Rousena has been a very valuable member  and we will miss her skills, talents and personable nature. I would highly recommend Rousena Hoag.
